新 兵正传 or Ah Boys to Men is the upcoming movie of Director Jack Neo. What i hope for is to see if there are any new jokes instead of recycling used ones from previous Army themed movies. Movies such as Army Daze, 23:59, Where got ghost? (吓到笑) and The Ghosts Must Be Crazy (鬼也笑) have used up most of the funniest stuff that could happen in Army and it leaves a challenge to seek out new ones to give the movie-goers something fresh.
In my opinion, this movie would likely succeed despite the Director's recent reputation as it suits the taste of Singaporeans. Jack Neo is well known to produce movies which the locals can relate to, themes such as Money, Government, Education, Parenting, etc which closely follows the lifestyle of a Singaporean and the theme of National Service is expected i would say.
Nowadays army movies, inside confirm got Ah Kua, blanket party, foot drills do wrongly la, the sergeant give commands in a funny accent la, shifting people's bed when they are sleeping la, marching knock onto other people, doing cock things during field camp, saying ghost stories and scare the ah kua la, the dropping soap during shower joke la, etc. Then the movie will proceed to show bonding whereby a very "up or zai" bunk mate will motivate the ah kua or the weaker ones to complete his BMT. Even if some of the jokes are re-used, it'll probably be funny as it depends on how the actors portray the joke and moreover having served NS before, we would think back if we had did the same and it would bring back the joy and laughter.
So i shall lookout for this movie when it hits the big screen! Huat ah!
